In the shadow of the towering One World Trade Center, seven members of the startup crew joined after missed trains and wrongly taken subways. The destination was 53, an app-startup located in Hudson 60, a multi-faceted business incubator. The group joined together with Georg Petschnigg one of the founders of 53. Mr. Petschnigg gave us insight into how to organize our business ideas as well as the time and effort required to establish a final product. At the conclusion of our meeting we all exited refreshed, energized and ready to start on our path. The day ended as we went our separate ways; some hungry, others tired and one poor soul who had to go to work but all excited in what the next eighteen days have in store.

On the misty morning of May the second in the year 2016, an aspiring group of young entrepreneurs gathered. The group nestled into the remains of the former Tech Center and began plans to reinvent the space. Lamps and wall fixtures were ordered to add atmosphere to the otherwise encumbering, windowless space. After the group discussed ground rules and game plan with Dr. Reshan Richards, it was off to the drawing board. Members pitched a total of 100 ideas upon reconvening after classes. Discourse covered legal, relevancy, target demographics, feasibility and profitability aspects of starting a business. After the walls were thoroughly plastered in sticky note ideas and numerous motions were made to dream big, it became clear that there was a long road ahead of us. Milling through as many ideas as possible rewarded us with a sense of team spirit. One thing is for sure: we are all in this project together. It is clear that we will all be called upon to draw on our respective talents to put forth the best possible team-driven company.
Tomorrow, excluding those taking AP Computer Science, Startup 101 will convene in downtown Manhattan following what is sure to be a logistical nightmare. I put great faith in this group, given the intellectual showing on display today. Follow us on Snapchat @mkastartup2016 #mkamayterm |
